Initial consultations

If you have never had counselling before, or have had negative experiences in the past, this step may seem like a frightening prospect. This is normal! For counselling to be effective, it is important that you feel completely comfortable with the therapist you choose. An initial consult is a low cost, low risk way of asking any questions you may have about the counselling process and seeing how comfortable you feel with your therapist. A 20 minute phone consultation can be fairly flexible and is free of charge; however, there is a $75 fee if you prefer video or face-to-face. The advantage of a video or face-to-face consult, is that you have the option of extending it to a full session if you feel comfortable and wish to do so - for full fee, of course. Please contact Valley Reflections directly (by phone, text or e-mail) if you'd like to schedule an initial consult.

$75 for 20 minutes (video or in person)

Individual sessions

Counselling is a collaborative process, beginning with understanding your concerns and developing goals. Together we will identify the specific challenges you want to address and explore possible solutions. All you need to bring is your self-awareness, openness and commitment to change. Your therapist will provide safety, empathy, knowledge, and insight to bring a fresh new perspective to your situation. Many find it helpful to start with weekly sessions then gradually space them farther apart as they begin to integrate positive changes; ultimately though, that decision is up to you. Only you can decide what will work best for you. Standard sessions are 50 minutes long, but longer sessions are also available if desired, and are often beneficial. Depending on your situation, longer sessions can promote faster progress, especially in the early stages of counselling, and therefore be more cost effective in the long term.

$145 for 50 minute session

$200 for 80 minute session

$270 for a 110 minute session

Couples' sessions

Our intimate relationships are a source of both great pleasure and great pain. If yours is bringing more pain than pleasure, perhaps some couples' counselling may help. We tend to get into patterns of how we think, communicate, and interact. Together, we will look at these patterns and what needs they are trying (and failing) to meet, then explore alternatives that will be more effective in order to bring you closer together. Initially, weekly sessions are often helpful, then gradually spacing them further apart as you learn and practice new skills; however, that will be up to you as a couple to decide. Standard sessions are 50 minutes long, but longer sessions are available if desired, and are often beneficial. Depending on your situation, longer sessions can sometimes promote faster progress, especially in the early stages of counselling, and therefore be more cost effective in the long term.

$180 for 50 minute session

$250 for 80 minute session

$340 for a 110 minute session

Practicum Students

Valley Reflections Counselling Services is pleased to support practicum students on their journey to becoming skilled therapists. We provide a venue for them to apply their new knowledge and skills, and offer supervision as they work through the final stage in fulfilling the requirements for a Master's degree in a counselling-related field. Practicum is the last stage of academic studies, so students are well prepared to begin their work with clients. They are closely supervised throughout their practicum placement, so choosing the services of a practicum student offers the benefit of having both a fresh and enthusiastic approach, and an experienced perspective, in addressing your concerns. Students’ services and reduced rates are only available for a limited time and space, and only if/when there is a student available.

See About Us for current students available for counselling, then Contact Us to inquire regarding space and suitability.

Individuals: $50 for 50 minute session

Couples: $60 for 50 minute session

Fees: Frequently Asked Questions

Do you charge for late cancellations, or if I miss an appointment?

Your appointment time is reserved just for you. Clients who miss an appointment or cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, will be charged a late cancellation fee of 60% of the regular fee. If you are unwell, please reschedule your in-person appointment for either a phone/video session, or for a later date. Please contact Valley Reflections if a Late Cancellation is due to illness.

What types of payment are accepted?

Payment is due at the time of your appointment, and can be made using cash, cheque, credit card or e-transfer to rhea@valleyreflections.com; debit card payments are not accepted. Regardless of your preferred payment method, credit card information is generally required to be kept on file to make efficient use of our time together and to facilitate contactless payments and online booking.  Once entered into our secure online platform, your credit card information is both private and confidential, and only used to charge agreed upon fees for services, such as sessions or late cancellations.

Are there any additional fees?

Not usually. Additional fees are only charged if extra services are required (eg providing copies of records, consulting with other service providers, preparing reports/letters, etc.), and you will be informed before such fees are charged.

Can you do direct billing to my extended health benefits?

Valley Reflections Counselling does not submit invoices directly to extended health benefits plans, with the exception of First Nations Health Authority and the Crime Victim Assistance Program, both of which require intial approval. While these plans fund the counselling itself, fees for late cancellations are your responsibility, and are charged at a rate of $50 for a missed session payable by any of the above-noted methods. For all other plans, you are responsible for paying the full fee at the time of your appointment, then submitting receipts to your individual plan(s). For your convenience, receipts can be either printed or emailed.
